A flexible spending account (FSA) is a savings account an employer sets up so employees can contribute part of their paychecks pre-tax to pay for qualified expenses, such as medical or dependent care. The federal government sets an overall cap for contributions each year.
Each year, employees choose how much to set aside in their FSAs. Using FSAs helps employees save money by avoiding tax on money they use to fund their health care. At the end of each year, any money left over in FSAs go back to the plan.
